About L.A.S. Vino
Founded by Nic Peterkin in Margaret River in 2013, L.A.S. Vino has quickly become one of Australia’s most exciting and boundary-pushing wine labels. The name stands for Luck, Art and Science, reflecting the balance between nature, creativity and technical understanding that underpins the wines.
Born into one of Margaret River’s great wine families (the son of Dr Mike Peterkin of Pierro and Shelley Cullen of Cullen Wine) Nic has carved out a style entirely his own. While deeply respectful of Margaret River’s classic foundations, L.A.S. Vino embraces experimentation, minimal intervention and a relentless curiosity to discover new flavours and expressions.
Working with sustainably farmed, organic and biodynamic vineyards wherever possible, the wines are handcrafted with a philosophy of “minimal intervention, maximum flavour”, resulting in wines that are distinctive, energetic and unmistakably site-driven.
The Wines & Philosophy
L.A.S. Vino has gained a cult following for wines that challenge convention while remaining precise, balanced and highly drinkable. Nic Peterkin is known for pushing boundaries through techniques such as extended skin contact, wild fermentations, amphora ageing and unconventional blends, all while maintaining a strong sense of Margaret River identity.
The range includes the highly regarded CBDB Chenin Blanc, now considered one of Australia’s benchmark examples of the variety, alongside multiple single-site Chardonnays, the vibrant Albino Pinot rosé, and the “Pirate Blend”; a Mediterranean-inspired blend of Portuguese varieties rarely seen in Margaret River.
Despite the experimental edge, these are not wines made for novelty. They combine serious craftsmanship, texture and detail with freshness, energy and drinkability, offering a modern and highly individual interpretation of Margaret River.
Margaret River’s New Wave
Over the past decade, L.A.S. Vino has become a leading voice in Margaret River’s new generation of winemakers. Nic Peterkin’s wines have earned acclaim for their originality and precision, helping redefine perceptions of what the region can produce beyond its established classics.
While Margaret River remains renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, L.A.S. Vino explores alternative varieties, creative blends and innovative techniques that bring a fresh perspective to the region. The wines remain deeply connected to place, but viewed through a more contemporary and adventurous lens; one that has made the label one of the most sought-after cult producers in Australia today.
