Peregrine

Peregrine Wines is a family-run winery based in Central Otago, New Zealand, dedicated to producing wines that speak clearly of place, season, and careful stewardship of the land. Founded in 1998 by the McLachlan family, Peregrine has always taken a hands-on approach, with a strong belief that great wine begins in the vineyard and is shaped by respect for nature and environment.
The estate sources fruit from vineyards across three of Central Otago’s most distinctive sub-regions: Gibbston, Pisa and Bendigo. This multi-site approach allows Peregrine to capture the diversity of Central Otago’s climate, altitude and soils, and to build wines of balance, complexity and site transparency.
Gibbston, the coolest and highest-altitude sub-region, is characterised by a marginal climate, long ripening periods and pronounced diurnal temperature shifts, producing wines with fine tannin structure, lifted aromatics and naturally high acidity. Pisa offers slightly warmer conditions and freer-draining soils, resulting in wines with generous mid-palate weight, supple texture and a harmonious balance between fruit ripeness and freshness. Bendigo, the warmest and most continental site, is defined by its north-facing slopes, low rainfall and schist-based soils, yielding concentrated fruit with depth, darker flavour profiles and natural power while retaining clarity and line.
Farming is central to Peregrine’s philosophy. All estate vineyards are organically farmed, with a strong emphasis on soil health, vine balance and biodiversity. By working in tune with natural systems, rather than relying on intervention, Peregrine seeks to express each site as faithfully as possible, allowing seasonal variation and vineyard character to shape the wines. This commitment to organic viticulture underpins the precision, energy and sense of place that define the Peregrine range.
