Henschke | 2022 Single Vineyard Collection

About Henschke
The Henschke family has been crafting wine in the Eden Valley since Johann Christian Henschke planted the family’s first vineyard in the early 1860s, with the first commercial release following in 1868. Across six generations, the family has built a reputation for producing some of Australia’s most iconic and age-worthy wines. Fourth-generation winemaker Cyril Henschke pioneered single-vineyard wines in Australia, creating Mount Edelstone and Hill of Grace — two wines that became defining benchmarks of Australian fine wine. Today, fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and his wife Prue continue this legacy with a strong focus on sustainability, regenerative viticulture, and organic and biodynamic farming practices.Henschke’s philosophy centres on purity, vineyard expression and longevity, combining careful vineyard management, traditional winemaking and thoughtful oak maturation to produce wines that faithfully reflect their site and season.
The Single Vineyard Collection
The 2022 Single Vineyard Collection includes Hill of Grace Shiraz, Hill of Roses Shiraz, Mount Edelstone Shiraz, The Wheelwright Shiraz and Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon.
These wines come from some of the estate’s most historic vineyards. Hill of Grace is a tiny 4-hectare site with vines dating back to around 1860, while Hill of Roses was established from cuttings taken from the original Hill of Grace ‘Grandfather Vines’. Mount Edelstone, first produced in 1952, celebrates 70 years with the 2022 release and remains one of Australia’s longest continuously produced single-vineyard wines.
Production is naturally limited by the size of these vineyards and the conditions of each season, making the collection highly sought after worldwide.
The 2022 Vintage
The 2022 season followed healthy winter rainfall and a cool, extended growing season that delayed budburst and harvest. A severe hail event in October significantly reduced yields across the Keyneton vineyards, though mild summer conditions and timely rainfall allowed for slow, even ripening.
Harvest occurred one to two weeks later than average, producing wines of elegance, balance and strong site expression. Henschke considers the vintage reminiscent of exceptional years such as 1991, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2015, with the wines showing impressive structure, refinement and long-term cellaring potential.
