Yves Cuilleron | Northern Rhône Valley

Yves Cuilleron has been described by the wine press as 'the leader of Condrieu's new generation of winemakers' and his wines straddle the divide between traditionalists and the new-wave, in the sense that they retain their sense of place, but express their sites in an approachable, immediate way. From simple VdP wines to the top bottlings in Condrieu, St Peray and St Joseph, the wines of Yves Cuilleron offer purity, precision, grace and joy.
Although the Cuilleron family had been vignerons for three generations, Yves came to wine relatively late. His first career was as a mechanic, but after completing his compulsory military service in Alsace, he developed an interest in wine. He went on to study viticulture in Mâcon before returning to the Northern Rhône in 1987 to take over his uncle’s estate.
Since then, Yves has continually expanded the domaine, acquiring vineyards across many of the Northern Rhône’s appellations. While the estate’s white wines have received much of the attention and acclaim, the reds have often flown under the radar, despite their undeniable quality across the range.
Yves’ passion for wine extends far beyond his own vineyards. Alongside friends François Villard and Pierre Gaillard, he established the négociant business Vins de Vienne and helped revive the historically important vineyards of Seyssuel, north of Vienne. He has also opened a restaurant in Ampuis with friends. Yves truly lives and breathes wine, regularly travelling throughout France to taste wines and meet producers. His constant curiosity and desire to take on new challenges have driven him to continually push the boundaries of quality, a rare level of energy and dedication that he has maintained throughout his career.
