Domaine Bachelet | Gevrey-Chambertin

Among the great domaines of Gevrey-Cham
bertin, few command the respect and admiration of Burgundy collectors quite like Domaine Denis Bachelet. Tucked away in a modest cellar in the heart of the village, this tiny family estate spans just over four hectares, producing some of the most sought-after Pinot Noir in the Côte de Nuits. Despite its small size, the domaine has earned an extraordinary reputation for wines of purity, finesse and remarkable longevity.
Denis Bachelet took over the family vineyards in the early 1980s, rebuilding the estate from humble beginnings and gradually establishing it as one of Burgundy's benchmark producers. Today, he works alongside his son Nicolas, continuing a philosophy centred on meticulous vineyard work, old vines, low yields and minimal intervention in the cellar. The domaine farms sustainably, avoids herbicides and unnecessary treatments, and allows each vineyard site to speak with clarity and precision.
What makes Bachelet so special is the combination of ancient vine material and an unwavering commitment to quality. Many of the vineyards are planted with vines dating back to the 1930s, while parcels in Les Corbeaux and Charmes-Chambertin contain some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in Gevrey-Chambertin. The resulting wines are never about power alone; instead they offer extraordinary perfume, silky textures, mineral depth and a sense of effortless balance that has become the hallmark of the domaine.
Production is minuscule and demand is immense. Bottles rarely remain available for long, with many collectors considering Bachelet's Charmes-Chambertin among the finest expressions of the vineyard. Yet it is often the village-level Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes that captures the essence of the domaine: old-vine fruit, remarkable complexity and a transparency to terroir that places it among the finest village wines produced anywhere in Burgundy.
