Description
This remarkable Moulin-à-Vent comes from a single plot of Gamay planted in 1903, among the oldest vines in Beaujolais. Situated on pink granite soils at altitude, the vineyard yields naturally low quantities of small, concentrated berries, producing a wine of both power and finesse. Farming is carried out organically, and winemaking follows a minimal-intervention approach, with whole-bunch fermentation and aging in large, neutral oak to preserve purity.
The 2023 vintage opens with an expressive bouquet of violet, peony, and wild herbs, layered over dark berry fruit and subtle spice. On the palate, it is structured yet elegant, with fine tannins supporting notes of black cherry, raspberry, and mineral depth drawn from the granite soils. The finish is long and savoury, balancing fruit vibrancy with the ageing potential that defines the best Moulin-à-Vent.
Yohan Lardy, part of a new generation of Beaujolais vignerons, established his domaine in 2012 after working in Burgundy and abroad. Based in Fleurie but farming parcels across the crus, he has quickly built a reputation for wines of authenticity and energy. His old-vine Moulin-à-Vent bottling is a flagship, demonstrating how Gamay from centenarian vines can rival the depth and longevity of Burgundy’s finest reds.
