Viognier may be a relatively recent addition to Yeringberg, but under Sandra de Pury’s guidance, it is quickly becoming one of the estate’s most captivating wines. Known elsewhere for its bold, heady character, Yeringberg’s style prioritises balance and finesse, crafting complexity while remaining elegant and restrained.

In 2022, unusually low yields meant the entire crop was harvested on a single day. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed to minimise phenolics, then wild-fermented in old French oak barrels and left on lees for 10 months, gaining texture and depth.

The nose is classic Viognier, yet refined—showing apricot, peach blossom, and burnt honey, lifted by delicate hints of white tea, ginger, and lemon verbena. The palate is immediately rich but never heavy, with a gently pithy texture and lively acidity that preserve freshness and structure, carrying the exotic fruit and floral notes through to a long, clean finish.

Perfumed, expressive, and elegantly layered, this Viognier is drinking beautifully now, though a few years in the cellar will only enhance its complexity and intrigue.
