2023 Agincourt Cabernet Malbec is a vibrant and finely structured blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Malbec, sourced from estate vineyards in the Yarra Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon from the Agincourt block, first planted in 1995, is complemented by Malbec vines planted in 1990, alongside newer Cabernet clones including 412 and WA Cape that contribute additional complexity and refinement.

Lifted and aromatic, the wine opens with notes of violets, mulberry and raspberry leaf, layered with subtle earthy nettle, savoury clove spice and hints of mocha. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully fresh, with vibrant berry fruit purity flowing into savoury textures and fine tannins. The Malbec component brings brightness and energy, adding a lively acid crunch that enhances both freshness and drinkability.

Fruit is hand harvested and carefully sorted prior to fermentation. The Cabernet Sauvignon is predominantly destemmed, with a small portion fermented as whole bunches to build perfume and lift, while the Malbec is fermented separately in small open fermenters with gentle hand plunging twice daily. Maturation takes place in French Bordeaux-shaped barrels, with only 10% new oak used to preserve the wine’s vibrant fruit profile and approachable style.

Crafted to be highly enjoyable in its youth, this is a polished and expressive Cabernet blend that will continue to evolve gracefully over the next five years and beyond under careful cellaring.
