William Downie’s Bull Swamp Pinot Noir is a brooding, old-vine expression from one of Gippsland’s most revered single vineyards, planted in 1981 on dry-grown red volcanic soils. At 150m elevation, this site produces Downie’s most powerful and structured Pinot, offering a bold counterpoint to his more lifted Camp Hill. The 2024 release is layered with ripe dark fruits—blueberry, blackberry, poached quince—and spiced with rosehip, mace and black pepper. Rich and textural, its plush fruit is grounded by fine tannins and the warmth of baked red clay. A soulful and complex Pinot, built to cellar and impress.
