Utzinger is a certified organic, minimal intervention producer in northern lutruwita/Tasmania, crafting soulful wines from their high-density, hand-tended vineyard on the western banks of the Tamar River. This Pinot Noir comes from West Tamar fruit grown on ferrous, dolerite-rich soils, expressing the region’s cool climate and natural vibrancy. The wine was wild fermented with 20% whole bunch after a cold soak, then basket pressed into mostly old French oak, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bright cherry, plum and strawberry fruit meet spice, underbrush and subtle oak on the nose, while the palate is soft and mid-weight, with a gentle acid line, fine young tannins and impressive length. Honest, thoughtful, and quietly expressive of place.
