Description
Sourced from the renowned La Serra MGA (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva) in the commune of La Morra, this Barolo is produced from 100% Nebbiolo grown at elevations of approximately 380–420 metres above sea level. The vineyard's south and south-east exposure, combined with its sandy soils over Sant'Agata marl, contributes to a wine of notable aromatic lift, finesse and elegance. Vines average more than 30 years of age.
As with all Sordo cru Barolos, vinification follows a traditional approach designed to highlight vineyard character rather than cellar influence. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with submerged-cap maceration lasting up to 50 days. The wine is then matured for 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by further refinement in stainless steel and bottle before release. This consistent élevage across the Sordo range allows the distinctions of each cru to remain clearly visible.
La Serra is one of the historic vineyards of La Morra, a commune widely recognized for producing some of Barolo's most perfumed and approachable wines. The higher altitude and sandy soils of this site contribute additional freshness, floral lift and refined tannin structure, distinguishing it from the richer, more powerful expressions found in communes such as Serralunga d'Alba and Monforte d'Alba.
The resulting wine is characterised by its elegance and precision, offering aromas of rose petal, red cherry and exotic spice. On the palate, it combines vibrant acidity with fine, mineral-driven tannins and a persistent finish. While approachable earlier than many Barolos, its balance and structure ensure excellent ageing potential over the next two decades and beyond.
