Description
Produced exclusively from 100% Nebbiolo sourced from selected vineyards across the Barolo DOCG zone, Sordo Barolo is vinified in a traditional style designed to emphasise site expression and longevity. Following crushing and destemming, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with a long submerged-cap maceration lasting between four and seven weeks, depending on the vintage. Natural malolactic fermentation follows before the wine rests in stainless steel for a short period. The wine is then matured for 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by further refinement in stainless steel and a minimum of six months in bottle prior to release. This traditional élevage preserves Nebbiolo's aromatic purity while allowing the tannins to integrate gradually.
Sordo has been producing Barolo since 1912 and remains firmly committed to a classic interpretation of the appellation. All Barolo wines, from the Classico bottling through to the single MGA crus, follow essentially the same winemaking regime, allowing vineyard character and vintage conditions to remain the defining influence on the finished wine.
The resulting wine combines Nebbiolo's hallmark structure with freshness and precision. Aromatically, expect restrained notes of red cherry, dried rose and subtle spice, while the palate is defined by firm tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savory finish. Built for cellaring, Sordo Barolo typically begins to reveal its full complexity after several years in bottle and has the capacity to evolve gracefully for decades.
