Description
The Seghesio family is deeply rooted in Monforte d’Alba. Renzo once served as the town’s mayor, and today his son Federico continues the legacy, crafting some of the most characterful Nebbiolo in the Barolo hills. Even Luca Roagna is among its admirers.
‘Ruri’ hails from the lower slopes of the Ginestra cru, made from declassified fruit of younger vines in Monforte and La Morra. Fermentation lasts about 16 days with a touch of whole berries before ageing first in tonneaux and then in larger Slavonian oak casks. Every step is handled with care and patience. No shortcuts, no showmanship.
The wine’s style is classic yet unpretentious: notes of macerated cherry, pine resin, porcini, and a touch of leather framed by fine, chalky tannins. It’s a savoury, textural expression of Nebbiolo, true to its origins, with the structure of Barolo but the approachability of a wine meant to be enjoyed now or over the next few years.
