Clos Otto is Hentley Farm’s flagship Shiraz, crafted from a historic parcel planted with a secret old Shiraz clone. The vineyard’s very shallow red clay loam over limestone produces small, intensely flavoured berries, hand-tended with minimal intervention. The 2022 vintage is opulent and complex, with aromas and flavours of dark cherry, blackberry pastille, mocha, and subtle cocoa and spice. Predominantly de-stemmed with some whole bunch inclusion, the fruit underwent extended skin contact before basket pressing and 22 months’ maturation in French oak, 55% of which was new. The result is an elegant yet powerful Shiraz of depth, fine tannin structure, and long ageing potential.
