Akeno is a signature red from Grace Wine that reflects the unique volcanic ash soils and cooler, elevated terroir of the Misawa Vineyard in Akeno-cho. The 2021 vintage is crafted from rigorously selected lots of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot that were fermented and matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, resulting in a wine of layered dark fruit, fine tannin structure and savoury spice. This year’s fruit achieved exceptional ripeness, due in part to healthy growing conditions and balanced weather, providing both depth and long-term ageing potential that expresses the vineyard’s volcanic character.
