Description
Gareth and Rainbo Belton from Gentle Folk have been an inspiring ingredient of the 'progressive wine' movement surrounding the Adelaide Hills. With a care for the planet, informed by their marine science background, the Beltons have committed to farming organically and employ some biodynamic practices. Gradually acquiring small plots in the region since 2013, Gentle Folk has grown their own grapes, a necessary step in Gareth's mind, to establish a true connection to the region. Bridging the gap between natural and traditional wine aesthetics they are now amongst the most in-demand in Australian wine.
The coolest vintage on record, the 2023 vintage proved challenging, however, the low-yielding, cool and slow-ripening season resulted in superb grapes and wines of equal character. The depth and tension of the Scary Gully Pinot Noir are a testament to the site. A textural wine with spice, red and black cherries and minerality from the sandstone and quartz ridge. Ultrafine tannins accompany the length.
20% whole cluster open top fermentation for two to three weeks followed by 10 months in oak, 20% new, before racking to tank for three months and bottled.
