Description
Gentle Folk, founded by Gareth and Rainbo Belton in 2013, has become one of the Adelaide Hills’ most exciting names, celebrated for bright, expressive, and delicately handled wines. Farming is carried out organically with a focus on biodiversity and minimal intervention, reflecting their belief in letting each site speak clearly. The Monomeith Vineyard, located near Lenswood, sits on steep, east-facing slopes at altitude, where cool breezes and sandstone-derived soils provide ideal conditions for Pinot Noir of fragrance and finesse.
The 2023 vintage presents lifted aromatics of wild strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, interwoven with hints of rose petal, spice, and a subtle forest-floor earthiness. The palate is lively and elegant, with supple red fruits carried on fine tannins and a refreshing line of acidity. Subtle whole-bunch influence adds savoury complexity, while gentle oak handling allows the purity of fruit to shine. The finish is long, precise, and finely textured, showcasing both vineyard character and vintage clarity.
Gentle Folk has built its reputation on crafting wines that are both playful and serious—wines that respect place but are unafraid of personality. The Monomeith Vineyard Pinot Noir is a striking example of this philosophy: a site-driven expression that marries the cool-climate elegance of the Adelaide Hills with the Beltons’ hallmark light touch in the cellar.
