Description
The Saint Georges Pinot Noir comes primarily from the historic Besson Vineyard, planted in the early 1900s just south of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Although the site sits just outside the official AVA boundary, the wine pays tribute to George Besson, whose organically farmed vines thrive in granitic and sandy loam soils.
Comprising mostly 45-year-old Pinot Noir vines (85%), with the remainder drawn from the Enz, Antle, and Boer vineyards in Chalone, the wine was fermented with about 30% whole stems and matured in seasoned barriques and demi-muids.
The result is a beautifully expressive Pinot Noir, brimming with juicy red fruit, gentle earthiness, and a sappy brightness. Supple and balanced, it’s an effortlessly delicious wine, one that charms from the first sip.
