Description
Now under the guidance of Jean-Marie Fourrier and the Burgundy-based team that succeeded founder Phillip Jones, Bass Phillip continues to define excellence in Australian Pinot Noir. The Reserve remains the estate’s flagship, sourced from the original 1979 Leongatha plantings, organically farmed and cropped at minuscule yields to fully express the vineyard’s character.
The 2023 vintage benefited from a long, cool growing season, allowing slow, even ripening. The fruit was treated with Fourrier’s signature precision—wild fermentation, gentle extraction, gravity transfer, and maturation in fine-grain French oak—prioritising purity and balance over sheer power.
The resulting wine is seamless and profoundly expressive. Notes of dark cherry, rose petal, and spice unfold on a silken, grounded palate. Fine yet assertive tannins are matched by bright, cleansing acidity. Elegant, layered, and built for long-term cellaring, this Reserve reinforces Bass Phillip’s status as Australia’s benchmark Pinot Noir.
