Bass Phillip’s Gamay, while often overshadowed by the estate’s renowned Pinots, has quietly established itself as one of the most distinctive wines in the range. Sourced from a small block at the Leongatha estate, it benefits from the same meticulous vineyard care—low yields, organic practices, and careful handling in the winery.

The 2021 vintage in South Gippsland was cool and balanced, a quality reflected in the wine’s poise. Hand-picked fruit underwent wild yeast fermentation and matured in old French oak, preserving freshness and texture rather than imparting overt oak character.

The result is a light, fragrant, and pure Gamay, with crunchy red cherry, gentle spice, and subtle earthy notes. The palate is silky and vibrant, finishing dry with fine, savoury tannins that provide structure without weight.
