Description
Ar.Pe.Pe. (Arturo Pelizzatti Perego) is one of the most revered names in Valtellina, a dramatic Alpine valley in northern Lombardy where Nebbiolo—locally known as Chiavennasca—clings to terraced vineyards carved into steep granite slopes. Founded in 1984 by Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, the estate is today run by his children, who continue his philosophy of patient, traditional winemaking: long fermentations, extended élevage in large neutral oak casks, and absolute respect for terroir.
The 2023 Rosso di Valtellina is the purest and most approachable expression of the estate. Made from younger vines and shorter macerations than the single-vineyard crus, it is vibrant, aromatic, and immediately enjoyable. In the glass, it shows a translucent ruby colour and perfumes of sour cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose, and Alpine herbs. The palate is light yet structured, with fine-grained tannins, lively acidity, and a mineral edge that speaks of the mountain soils. The finish is savoury, fresh, and lifted, making it a versatile partner for a wide range of dishes.
Though less imposing than the estate’s famed Sassella, Grumello, or Inferno bottlings, the Rosso di Valtellina offers a glimpse into the unique landscape and meticulous craft that make Ar.Pe.Pe. so admired. It is a wine of precision, delicacy, and mountain character—an ideal introduction to the house style and to one of Italy’s most singular Nebbiolo regions.
