Turon White, co-founder of Turon Wines with his wife Alex, has made the Adelaide Hills his creative and spiritual home. After years honing his craft through vintages in Australia, Oregon, and Hungary, Turon now devotes himself entirely to producing wines of purity, precision, and depth from one of the country’s most diverse and pristine wine regions. His minimal-intervention philosophy allows the vineyards to speak clearly, crafting wines that capture the delicate balance between elegance and intensity that defines the Adelaide Hills.
After graduating in winemaking from the University of Adelaide, Turon worked at some of Australia’s leading producers, including biodynamic pioneer Ngeringa and the historic Petaluma, before taking the reins as head winemaker at The Lane Vineyard in 2019. In 2017, he and Alex built their own small-batch winery in Lenswood, establishing a home base that perfectly embodies their values of authenticity and sustainability. Here, they planted a high-density Pinot Noir vineyard with over 5,500 vines per hectare — a labour of love designed to achieve exceptional fruit intensity by asking less of each vine. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the vineyard’s altitude ensures cool nights and vibrant acidity, while the days bathe the vines in rich sunlight, producing fruit of outstanding concentration and finesse.
Turon Wines has quickly earned recognition for its refined expressions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Gamay, each crafted with an unwavering focus on terroir. Gamay, in particular, has become a growing passion, with Turon championing it as one of the Adelaide Hills’ most exciting emerging varieties. His approach in the cellar is deliberately restrained — no cultured yeasts, enzymes, or acid additions — allowing each wine to evolve naturally. Sulphur is used only sparingly at bottling, a testament to his confidence in the purity of his fruit and the precision of his craft.
Beyond his own label, Turon and Alex also operate The Hills Handcrafted Collective, a collaborative winery space and consultancy designed to nurture the next generation of local winemakers. Their focus on knowledge sharing and sustainable practice has helped strengthen the Adelaide Hills’ reputation as a hub of innovation and community.
For Turon and Alex, every decision is guided by a commitment to sustainability and integrity — from vineyard to bottle. Their estate and winery are both certified organic and sustainably managed, with regenerative farming techniques, carbon-conscious production, and a belief that great wine should do good. As Turon puts it, “Our mission is to make bloody tasty wines that are natural, sustainable, and independent of outside influence.”
Each release from Turon Wines captures that ethos — wines that are thoughtful yet vibrant, refined yet expressive, and truly reflective of the land and people behind them.
