Description
From the heart of Vouvray in the Loire Valley, Les Trois Chênes is a pure expression of Chenin Blanc crafted by Benjamin Serer, a young vigneron devoted to organic farming and artisanal methods. The estate takes its name from three centuries-old oaks that stand at the edge of the vineyard, a symbol of both heritage and resilience. The vines are rooted in tuffeau limestone soils, which lend the wine its signature freshness and minerality. Fermentation is natural, with native yeasts, and élevage takes place in a mix of stainless steel and older barrels to balance precision with texture.
The 2023 vintage displays a luminous pale gold hue with aromas of quince, pear, citrus blossom, and acacia honey. On the palate, it is both vibrant and layered, carrying flavours of ripe orchard fruits, citrus zest, and a subtle saline undertone. Crisp acidity and a gently rounded mouthfeel provide harmony, leading to a long, mineral finish that is both refreshing and complex. This is a versatile wine—delightful now for its purity, yet capable of developing additional nuance with a few years of bottle age.
Benjamin Serer represents a new wave of Loire winemakers committed to authenticity and sustainability. His Vouvray bottlings emphasise terroir transparency and varietal clarity, qualities that have made Chenin Blanc from this region so admired worldwide. Les Trois Chênes is a fine introduction to his work: precise, characterful, and deeply tied to its place of origin.
