Fattoria la Magia

Fattoria La Magia – A Family, a Vineyard, a Vision

Set high above the rolling Tuscan hills, overlooking the medieval town of Montalcino, Fattoria La Magia lives up to its name. Meaning “the magic,” the estate captures the rare harmony between nature, family, and craftsmanship that defines great Brunello.

Founded in the 1970s and now run by Fabian Schwarz, La Magia is a story of generational dedication. The family’s south-facing vineyards in Castelnuovo dell’Abate sit on ancient galestro soils, ideal for Sangiovese. Organic viticulture and low yields ensure each vine produces fruit of purity and depth, while large oak casks allow the wines to evolve gently, building elegance over time.

La Magia’s Brunello di Montalcino is celebrated for its refinement, expressive yet poised, with notes of dark cherry, walnut, and spice woven through polished tannins. Each vintage reflects the rhythm of the land and the patience of those who tend it. Fabian’s approach balances modern precision with traditional soul, producing wines that are vibrant, layered, and built to age gracefully.

Beyond the wine, La Magia is also a celebration of art. The estate’s architecture, label design, and cellar aesthetics all mirror its philosophy that wine should move the senses as deeply as art itself. This quiet artistry, combined with meticulous attention to detail, has placed La Magia among Montalcino’s most admired estates.

In every bottle lies a piece of the family’s vision, a fusion of Tuscan heritage and contemporary finesse that continues to enchant those who taste it.

2023 Vispo Rosso Toscana IGT
Made entirely from Sangiovese grown on the central-southeastern slopes of Montalcino at 400–450 metres, the Vispo Rosso captures the youthful energy of the estate. The vines, aged between fifteen and twenty-one years, are planted in stony galestro soils and harvested in late September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at low temperatures following a short cold maceration, resulting in a lively, fruit-driven expression bottled the following spring. With around 13.5% alcohol, it shows bright red fruit, fine acidity, and the easy charm of young Sangiovese.

2023 Rosso di Montalcino DOC
The Rosso di Montalcino is also 100% Sangiovese, sourced from the same organically farmed vineyards. It is fermented in stainless steel at temperatures below 26 °C, then aged for nine months — half in used 500-litre French oak and half in stainless steel — before release. The result is a supple, fragrant wine that balances lively cherry fruit and gentle spice with a clean, savoury finish. It captures the essence of the estate in an approachable, early-drinking style.

2020 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
La Magia’s Brunello is drawn from the estate’s oldest vines, around forty-six years of age, rooted in stony sand and clay soils on the southern slopes of Montalcino. Fermentation takes place in a mix of stainless steel and large oak casks, with a long maceration of about forty days. The wine is then matured for thirty-six months in 500-litre French oak barrels, one-third new and two-thirds seasoned. With an alcohol level around 15%, it shows the hallmark depth and elegance of the estate — layers of red berries, tobacco, and mineral spice over a fine, structural core that promises long life.

2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG
Produced only in exceptional vintages, the Riserva represents the pinnacle of La Magia’s craftsmanship. Made from 100% Sangiovese grown at 400–450 metres, it undergoes forty-five days of maceration before spending forty months in new French oak tonneaux, followed by twelve months of bottle refinement. With an alcohol content of about 14.5%, it reveals deep concentration and complexity — dark cherry and plum layered with fine-grained tannins, spice, and an underlying savoury minerality. This is a wine of presence and poise, built for long aging and reflection.

2024 Vermentino Toscana IGT
The estate’s Vermentino is a refreshing counterpoint to its reds — a bright, aromatic white vinified in a combination of stainless steel and new oak barrels. Straw-yellow in colour with light green reflections, it opens with aromas of white flowers, stone fruit, and Mediterranean herbs. Notes of lemon, peach, and acacia blend with hints of honey, white pepper, and wet stone. The palate is dry and medium-bodied, lifted by vibrant acidity and a clean, gently saline finish that leaves a trace of almond and citrus zest.
