The Old Patch, which sits in the middle of the block, was planted in 1867, making it the oldest vineyard in NSW and one of the oldest in the world. A steep, east-facing block located right underneath the Brokenback mountain range, which provides great protection, it features darker, richer soils than those on our Ashmans property. The fruit is handpicked and sorted in the vineyard before a natural fermentation takes place in our open-top vats with approximately 10% whole bunches. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 14 months in a single one-year-old 2700L French oak cask.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBright purple in colour with more density than many of the other wines in this release. Textbook modern Hunter Valley Shiraz, medium-bodied with a wonderful core of sweet fruit, with a lovely velvety texture and superb acid and tannin balance.
