Planted on its own roots in 2017 at \u003cstrong\u003e400 metres elevation\u003c\/strong\u003e, the vineyard combines three Shiraz clones — PT10, 2626 and Mt Langi — planted just 75cm apart. The vines grow in a thin 15–30cm layer of topsoil over ancient decomposed granite with no clay, surrounded by the enormous granite boulders characteristic of the site. The vineyard is farmed by hand using organic practices, Poussard pruning and zero tillage. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchor\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe unusual orientation and elevation encourage a particularly long growing season, with Home Block typically harvested in \u003cstrong\u003eApril\u003c\/strong\u003e, considerably later than Foster’s other Heathcote vineyards. The outstanding 2021 season delivered beautifully even ripening without significant heat spikes, which Foster describes as potentially the best vintage he had seen to that point. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the winery, the fruit was fermented with \u003cstrong\u003e50% whole bunches and wild yeast\u003c\/strong\u003e, spending \u003cstrong\u003e28 days on skins\u003c\/strong\u003e with gentle foot stomping and hand plunging. The wine was then matured for \u003cstrong\u003etwo years on lees without racking in a 675L ceramic egg\u003c\/strong\u003e, before being bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal SO₂ and aged for a further \u003cstrong\u003ethree years in bottle\u003c\/strong\u003e before release. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMineral and intensely savoury, with wood smoke, white pepper and \u003cem\u003ebouquet garni\u003c\/em\u003e leading into a compact, powerful yet energetic palate.
