After spending much of his career working with the warm vineyards of Marananga in the Western Barossa while developing a deep appreciation for the cooler, elevated vineyards of Flaxman's Valley in Eden Valley, Powell set out to create wines that celebrate the distinctive qualities of both regions.

The winery's portfolio is divided into two collections. The Regional Series showcases the diversity of the Barossa through classic regional styles, including Grenache Shiraz Mataro, Western Barossa Shiraz, a blend of Barossa and Eden Valley Shiraz, Eden Valley Riesling, Barossa Valley Marsanne, and an old vine Barossa Shiraz blend. Alongside these wines, the Single Vineyard Series highlights six exceptional sites across the Barossa and Eden Valleys, featuring four Shiraz vineyards alongside old vine Grenache and Mataro. Many of these vineyards contain century-old vines that Powell has personally restored and tended for more than two decades. Each wine is named after the pioneering families who first planted these remarkable vineyards, honouring their foresight and legacy.

A strong belief in terroir expression underpins every aspect of Neldner Road's viticulture and winemaking. Powell remains closely involved in vineyard management, pruning and maintaining the vines himself using traditional rod and spur pruning for Shiraz and bush vine pruning for Grenache and Mataro. Organic and sustainable practices are employed wherever possible, with a minimalist philosophy designed to allow each vineyard to speak for itself.

In the winery, traditional techniques are combined with careful attention to preserving fruit purity and site expression. Grapes are fermented in open concrete fermenters with regular pump overs before being basket pressed. The wines are then matured in French oak, including large foudres, barriques and puncheons, before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The result is a collection of wines that balance richness with freshness, vibrancy and precision, reflecting Powell's long-standing commitment to preserving the unique vineyards and old vines that have made the Barossa and Eden Valleys among Australia's greatest wine regions.

"The Barossa Valley Shiraz is sourced from mature Barossa Valley vineyards (30+ years old) with the majority located along the region’s North-Western ridge in Marananga and Seppeltsfield. We aim for richness, minerality and hedonism in this, our most premium white wine. The style is typically lower in acid and high in phenolic content, which provides richness on the palate and requisite phenolics to age. While floral, bright in fruit and pretty in youth this wine should age to become savoury, complex, and decadent in years to come.

Our Marsanne is from a vineyard on the sands of Vine Vale owned by the Steinborner family. The grapes are handpicked and whole bunch pressed into tank, cold settled overnight before racking and allowed to begin fermenting naturally. Once the ferment is under way the juice is transferred and barrel fermented in half new and half second use, French oak barriques. It is lees stirred and undergoes malolactic fermentation and matured in oak for approximately nine months. Aside from a minor bentonite fining to cold stabilise the wine, no fining or filtration is done to maintain the phenolic richness. The resultant wine is what I describe as a red wine drinkers’ white wine. It is incredibly aromatic with rich honeyed notes and very full and textured on the palate.

The Marsanne shows notes of butterscotch, honeyed citrus, stone fruit, white florals and apricot kernel.
